SOUTH ROUTE
HOW DOES THE SOUTH ROUTE LOOK LIKE?
On the southern route, we dive straight into the heart of things. We venture into Oman’s untouched and largely undiscovered southern region, where camels far outnumber people. First, we explore the Frankincense Route, with its spectacular panoramic roads in the far west of Dhofar, before heading into the Rub' al Khali for three days to experience the highest sand dunes ever recorded. This tour can also be combined with a round trip.
DAY 1
From Alila Hinu Bay to Fazayah Beach
Your journey begins at the breathtaking Alila Hinu Bay Hotel in Mirbat. You head west towards the picturesque mountains, making scenic stops at Mughsail before reaching Fazayah Beach. Enjoy the stunning coastal landscapes and spend your first-night camping on the beach at Fazayah.
DAY 2
From Fazayah Beach to Wadi Aydam
After a relaxed night on the beach, you set off towards Wadi Aydam. The drive takes you through impressive landscapes before you reach the picturesque Wadi Aydam. Enjoy the rugged beauty of the wadi as you camp there for the night.
DAY 3 & 4
Rub al Khali Desert Crossing
After a restful night in Wadi Aydam, you continue your journey to Mazuna, where you refuel and enjoy a leisurely lunch. Then, you head to Jidelah, home to some of the world's tallest sand dunes. Be awed by the majestic dunes as you set up camp and spend the night under the starry desert sky. The next two days are dedicated to an exciting desert crossing through the Rub al Khali, also known as the Empty Quarter, one of the largest sand deserts in the world. Enjoy the serene seclusion and unique beauty of the desert as you camp amidst the endless dunes.
DAY 5
From Al Hashman to Salalah
On the final day, you leave the desert from the Al Hashman side and drive directly back to Salalah. Conclude your adventure with a luxurious stay at the Anantara Al Baleed Resort, reflecting on the unforgettable journey through one of the most spectacular deserts in the world.
